Samuel Plaatjie first joined the law firm Sebego Sharma Attorneys in June 2013 as an intern whilst still a University student and carried on with the would then be Sebego Attorneys in June 2014 still as an Intern doing his final year at University. Samuel subsequently completed his Bachelor of Laws Degree with the University of Botswana in the year 2015 and was admitted October as an Attorney in the same year. He commenced formal work as a Pupil Attorney of the firm that very year.
Over the years in the firm Samuel through his hard work and dedication quickly elevated from a Pupil Attorney to an Associate Attorney and eventually to his current position of Senior Associate Attorney, which position he assumed in March 2018. He deals mainly with Civil and Commercial Litigation. His practical experience in the said area includes consultation and rendering of legal advice, drafting of legal documents inclusive of court pleadings, drafting of legal opinions and contracts, court appearances for arguments and trials on various matter including debt collection and foreclosure proceedings.
Mr Plaatjie also has experience in Criminal Law and most notably acted for the accused person in the case of O.Mosala & Another vs The Commander, Botswana Defence Force UCHGB-000262/18 which case reformed the law by introducing bail in the Military Justice System of Botswana in the year 2018. This has opened the gates for people charged criminally under military law to be able to apply for bail.
Over and beyond his work at the firm Samuel was elected as a Law Society of Botswana (LSB) Council member in December 2018 being one of the youngest people to ever be elected into the LSB. He was also appointed acting Legal Advisor of the Botswana Boxing Association in June 2014 and by virtue of the position the de facto Head of the Associations Disciplinary Committee. Samuel is very good at problem solving and above all he is a positive and enthusiastic person.
